Barbara A. Loomis, age 79, of Alma, Michigan formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at her home. Barbara was born on April 12, 1936 in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of Henry Wilson and Mattie Eva (Wooten) Pleasant. On March 24, 1956, she married Ernest J. Loomis in Weidman, Michigan. Ernest passed away on December 23, 2010.
After being a waitress for many years, Barbara decided she wanted to do something different and decided to be a beautician, which she did until her failing eye sight forced her to retire. She was a very religious person who enjoyed her family and watching her favorite television shows. Barbara was a former member and attended the Episcopal Church. She was a resident of the area since the early 1960’s.
Surviving Barbara are her daughters, Barbara Ann-Pearl (Steven) Skorna of Mt. Pleasant and Jillene and John Ramirez of Alma; three grandchildren, Steven Ray and Brandon Skorna and Jennie Ramirez; four brothers, Ronald Stone, Pete Stone, Donald Stone and David Stone; and a sister, Helen Harmon, all of South Carolina. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, and a brother, Dickie Brookes.
A service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. from the Rowley Funeral Home with Fr. Wayne Nichols of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery beside her husband. Friends and family will gather on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions have been suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice that benefits children.
